I’ve been reading through Ecclesiastes lately and the verses in the beginning have really spoken to me. We are told that we need to surrender our lives to Christ, and I absolutely agree with that. Surrendering everything to God can be hard, especially if you have control issues. Is it necessary if you want a strong relationship with him? It definitely helps.
“I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my labor, and this was the reward for all my toil. Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done, and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 10-11. I’ve already spoken about surrender and relying on God, but let me put it like this.
Is anything you possess or want worth more to you than your relationship with God? Seriously think about it. I cannot and will not tell you how to live your life. No one is qualified to do that except for the Lord. If your answer to the question above is “yes”, you can change it if you want to. I am at a point in my life where God is the only thing that matters to me besides my family. I know God can and will sustain me because he’s done it time and time again, and he can do it for you too.
Not all people have that experience, but I believe that everyone can fully surrender to the Lord. He wants every part of you. He doesn’t want us to be blinded by these worldly things that don’t matter, and only pull us further from him. Anyone and everyone is capable of surrendering their lives to Jesus, even you. “You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God.” Exodus 20:5. May we all realize that nothing on this world matters, and that you, Lord, are the true meaning of life. Amen.
