I’m sure you’ve been told to count your blessings. I have. Now, the question is, do you? I didn’t do it every time, but sometimes I would. The thing is, when you start that list, you might not realize how much you have. It’s sometimes hard to be thankful for everything, but the Bible tells us, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Then, in James 1:2-3 it says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” Everyone has been and will be faced with many challenges and trials. My family and I sure have. But, if I could, would I change anything? My answer is no. We have learned so many things together, and like the verse above says, we learned to persevere through our faith. Another thing is how to see God in every situation. Trust me, this one is hard.
The bottom line is God is in everything. We just have to choose to see him; see the good. Even though it might not seem like that is light, you have to trust that there is. You have to trust that God does everything for a reason whether you can see it or not, because hecan see it. Hecan see the big picture. Not us. Now, I know this is difficult. I’m not saying that I’m perfect and don’t complain or get upset over events that happen. No one is perfect except for Jesus Christ. We’re human. We make mistakes; take our blessings for granted sometimes, complain, the list goes on.
But we are also made in the image of God. Am I saying we can be exactly like him? No. But we can grow in our relationships with him and eventually learn to love like him. Forgive like him. So maybe this is your sign to get out a piece of paper and a pen and just scribble out everything you’re thankful for, no matter how old you are or how long it’s been since you’ve done it. We don’t need a special holiday to be thankful. I personally have a lot of things on my list, but remember, the most important one is Jesus. No matter what happens, we’ll always have him to look to for the good.
